Children’s Weaving Workshop, August 26
On August 26 Lois and Neta held a morning weaving workshop for kids at The Lutheran Church on Highland Road in Peterborough.
Lois began by reading a book about a shepherd boy who needed a new coat and what he had to do to get it – a quick and fun lesson in the steps from sheep to cloth!
Lois prepared paper weaving, and styrofoam tray weaving for the younger ones. She also brought the box loom from the guild, already warped, so the kids could see how the shafts work and try weaving a couple of rows.
For the older kids, Neta had prepared for making necklaces, from an article in the summer issue of Handwoven. It was fun to see the different results.
Neta was very thankful that Lois had offered to help. Thanks to her it was a success. 19 elementary school children attended and it was definitely not a one woman job, even if we had helpers. Everyone had fun.
