Fibre Arts Festival & Sale 2016
Fibre Arts Festival & Sale 2016
Our 6th annual Fibre Arts Festival & Sale took place at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, (located by Fleming College) 775 Brealey Drive, Peterborough, Ontario, on Saturday, March 19, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. $3.00 entrance fee. Children 10 and under enter free if accompanied by an adult.
A message from Neta
I cannot believe that it is soon two months since our festival on March 19!
We were so delighted to see it turn out to be such a success, and that everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, both visitors and vendors. We want it to be a fun and rewarding event for all, and it seems that indeed it was. It was wonderful to see not only women visiting, but men as well who seemed to enjoy themselves just as much! As always our draw prizes were a big hit, and quite a few were actually won by men!
I want to thank our vendors for their great displays and cheerful interactions with the public. And of course I must thank our own guild members that made the whole thing possible, both during the months of planning and at the event.
For next year we have decided to forego the two separate areas and keep it all in the large gym rooms area, (which will be 3 times as large as the one gym we had this year) as we were told that some visitors seemed to have overlooked the wonderful activity and sales area in the multi purpose rooms, in spite of signs. We really do not want anyone to miss any of the fun! Well, it was a learning experience, as it always is when one is starting something somewhere new.
I also want to thank the vendors for taking the time to fill in their feedback forms – it is a big help in the planning for next year’s festival! With your help we also have some additional interesting names on our vendor contact list!
Of course we hope that both our visitors and vendors are looking forward to the next festival! It will take place on Saturday March 18, 2017, again at the Peterborough Sports and Wellness Centre. So go ahead, mark it on your calendar!
As for now, have a lovely summer!

Fibre Arts Festival 2016
As we have grown out of the Library auditorium we are delighted to have found a new venue for our 2016 Fibre Arts Festival and Sale, on Saturday March 19, 2016, 10AM-4PM, at the Peterborough Wellness Centre, 775 Brealey Drive, beside Fleming College. It is a bright, friendly, fully accessible venue with lots of parking and a bus stop at the front door.
After finding the new venue one of our members put together an appealing ad card that surely will help to promote the festival.
We have visited shows throughout the summer, and will visit others still to come, continuing to distribute our ad cards, and approach new vendors and artisans. We aim to add as many new different kinds of vendors and artisans as possible to make the experience even more fun and inspiring for our visitors. The registration form is now available and is being sent out to previous participants and new prospective vendors and registrations are coming in. If you are interested in participating, contact Neta at a.j.knauer@gmail.com -

Children’s Weaving Workshop, August 26
On August 26 Lois and Neta held a morning weaving workshop for kids at The Lutheran Church on Highland Road in Peterborough.
Lois began by reading a book about a shepherd boy who needed a new coat and what he had to do to get it – a quick and fun lesson in the steps from sheep to cloth!
Lois prepared paper weaving, and styrofoam tray weaving for the younger ones. She also brought the box loom from the guild, already warped, so the kids could see how the shafts work and try weaving a couple of rows. For the older kids, Neta had prepared for making necklaces, from an article in the summer issue of Handwoven. It was fun to see the different results.
Neta was very thankful that Lois had offered to help. Thanks to her it was a success. 19 elementary school children attended and it was definitely not a one woman job, even if we had helpers. Everyone had fun.
